Facilitates inclusiveness throughout the BBA and the legal profession by coordinating programs and discussions about diversity, equity and inclusion and by interfacing with BBA Sections and other Committees.
The Black Women Lawyers Association of Alabama (BWLAA) is a not-for-profit professional bar association founded in 2020 by a group of Black women attorneys from all areas of practice in the state of Alabama. Our mission is to promote diversity in the legal profession and to provide a supportive network for Black women lawyers. We strive to advance the interests of Black women in the legal profession and to promote equal justice under the law.
The goal of the Women's Section of the Huntsville Bar Association is to further the personal and professional development of women with law degrees and to enhance the quality of life and culture of the legal community. The purpose of the section is to encourage participation by women in the practice of law, to enhance the quality of life for women who have chosen law as a profession, to provide role models and mentors for women seeking to enter or grow in the profession, and to provide an environment that fosters cooperation between and among women in the profession, thereby enhancing the profession as a whole.
The MCBA continues to promote and facilitate the professional advancement of minority attorneys and provides a forum for discussing and addressing a wide variety of community issues and concerns. Today, we stand as an organization and as black attorneys on the shoulders of our founders. Without their courage, without their determination, without the stern fortitude of those that have gone before us, we would not be here today.
Today, the primary purpose of MBA Women Lawyers is to provide an opportunity for women lawyers in the Mobile area to network, socialize, and establish personal and professional relationships, as well as to provide a safe and inviting environment that facilitates and encourages women to discuss the unique challenges we face in the practice of law in Mobile.
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee works to embrace the dignity of all human beings, to advance the principles of diversity, and to promote inclusion. The objectives of this committee include 1). To identify and assess the needs and concerns of the members of the bar as it relates to diversity; 2). to recognize and celebrate our diversity; 3). To educate and facilitate training on diversity and inclusion for the members of the bar; and 4). To promote opportunity for diversity in the legal profession.
