For the past several years, the YLD’s leaders have had a 100% charitable giving record to the ABA’s public services; the most popular causes are those that either protect victims of natural disasters or help to diversify the field of law.
As a past YLD leader, I am asking you to renew or make a first-time donation before December 31st for a tax deduction, if you itemize. Why does this matter?
- The ABA Young Lawyers Division’s Disaster Legal Services Program, in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is on the ground coordinating the delivery of legal services to disaster survivors. An anonymous donor is giving $100,000 to increase these and additional pro bono legal services for disaster survivors across the country. We aim to match those dollars with support from YLD leaders and other generous ABA members.
- The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship covers school-related expenses for 60 diverse and self-supporting law students, each academic year, so they can focus on their studies and not on their finances. Contributions up to $15,000 total, made in honor of distinguished attorney and long-time diversity proponent -- Saul A. Wolfe -- will be matched by his sons who are both former YLD leaders, David & Jon Wolfe.
